Portland Fashion Designer To Design Fashion for Both Ends of the Leash

Fashion for Both Ends of the Leash

Boutiques Unleashed, by far one of my most favorite events to benefit DoveLewis’ (that is not a typo btw it’s one word) Pet Loss Support Group, is coming up on Friday, April 9, 2010.

You will see the hippest animals and humans around on the runway at Portland’s premier fashion event! Boutiques Unleashed is a fun and sometimes hilarious look at the latest styles from local boutiques for people and pets.

Plus, Project Runway contestant (and local designer) Seth Aaron Henderson will join Boutiques Unleashed designing a special outfit for the mystery model! Special thanks to Portland fashion website pdxneatsheet.com for helping bring Seth Allen on board!

Sawyer

In previous years the mystery model has been Gracie the therapy goat and Rojo the therapy llama. You can see who this year’s mystery model is and meet Seth Aaron Henderson in person at the April 9th event!

Personal pets are not on the invitation list so leave them at home. But go and enjoy the festivities that involve many local stylists and retailers. Below is a list of some of the participating boutiques:

Black Wagon Lizard Lounge

Mercantile Meringue Boutique Physical Elemen

Pin-Me Apparel Say Say Boutique Phlox

Mabel & Zora Garnish Apparel          Finn Mens’ Clothing

All for Paws Bentley B D’tails Dog Salon

Hip Hound Klees Designs
LexiDog Boutique & Social Club Salty’s Dog and Cat Shop

Kimberly Maus and Wayne Garcia from Fox 12 Oregon will MC the event

For more information on sponsorship opportunities and how you and your company can become involved with DoveLewis, contact Alison Arella at aarella@dovelewis.org

The most gorgeous Cardigan Corgi in the photos above is my very own Sawyer “thecorgi” a three year old corgi.

Have a great weekend and SHOP ON!

Chic doggie styles at P-town’s Pet Fashion Week

OK yes it’s true. You have missed Boutiques Unleashed the fun fun fundraiser for DoveLewis Animal Hospital Pet Loss Support Group. Local human and doggy types strut their stuff down the fashion runway for Portland’s Pet Fashion Week. It was last night at the Wonder Ballroom. Heard it was a blast as usual.

However … you can still participate in the fundraiser by shopping at one (or more) of the following boutiques: Say Say Boutique, Mabel & Zora, Ella’s, Meringue, Sofia, Pin Me Apparel, Tumbleweed or Physical Element. Meringue, for instance, is donating 10% of sales from March 13-15th to DoveLewis. That is so cool. Portland is so cool. Even in the present economic downturn people don’t stop supporting good causes like the Pet Loss Support Program at DoveLewis. If you’ve lost a much-loved pet, you know how very hard it is to go through that grief process. Well, let me move along lest I get all soppy in my storytelling. SHOPPING is always good for the soul and getting over the doldrums. I know some of you don’t think so … you know who you are. I beg to disagree.

Back to Meringue … I love this long sleeve long shrug ($35) … bought it in black and it is very auspicious with jeans.4507_front_vintage-black_s-01

4081464_front_grey-brown-black_s-01And this little adorable sweater ($108) is adorable … on someone else besides me because the big stripes around the belly set off my set of rolls that have not disappeared since Christmas.

Speaking of which. I saw Ms. Tiffany Bean, owner of Mabel & Zora, with hubbie in tow at a weight loss establishment, which shall remain nameless (you know, privacy is everything), on Thursday. She mentioned that they’re celebrating their one-year anniversary at the shop in the Pearl district and their third-year anniversary at the Alberta Street location.

Can you believe it’s already been open there for a year? Seems like yesterday I visited there and watched Tulip (their adorable bulldog) lounging in the dressing room. Love you little Tulip.sexy-tulip

Check out some of their new dresses. The first one is marked down from $124 to $35. Love you Mabel & Zora!

But even when they’re not on sale at Mabel & Zora the prices points are always more than reasonable.

Ooops I almost forgot to tell you about Stella’s on 21st. They have such a great surplus of everything you could spend an entire day just shopping there. Ok maybe I could not you. I’m just sayin’. Go there. Shop. index_242009

On.  Shop On.

Furever Pets … Great Doggie Treats & Gifts For Christmas!

Need an idea for Christmas gifts for the doggies? A friend of mine who is a massage therapist (Maddy Turner) also has  a business called Pawsative Touch. Can you guess who she massages? Yes you win the big Shopping Out Loud prize (worthless of course) for guessing that it’s massage for the doggies!

Check Maddy’s website. Trust me, if you get the gift of doggie massage that pup will never forget you.

She came over to massage Sawyer thecorgi the other day so I could see her techniques (I wrote a story about her business for the Oregonian). Sawyer is such a little boo boo. The minute Maddy laid hands on him his eyes rolled back in his head and all you could see were the whites of his eyes for the next 30 minutes. He didn’t move a muscle.  He’s such a little pushover.

Speaking of Sawyer thecorgi. I got him a new halter leash today at Furever Pets on NE Broadway. doggiesspot_lgimg

They remodeled the store a couple of months ago and it’s about twice the size these days – with lots more room for pet supplies, freezers for food and treats and many more toys and various asundry dog acoutrements.

I had also been looking for the dog ball of the century … and found it there.
Yes, it’s the Go-Frrr Ball with Slingshot-Action

I love this ball. It’s the best invention ever. And you don’t have to be a professional baseball player to get it to go unbelievably far! This makes a good doggie gift too.
